PanelClaw Solar Mounting Supports First Non-Profit FIT Project

Wilder, VT, March 15, 2010 - PanelClaw, a leader in solar PV mounting systems, has partnered with ReKnew Energy Systems to deliver the first non-profit, solar feed-in tariff (FIT) project in the US.  The 31.68 kW solar array utilizes PanelClaw's Polar Bear® FR ballasted solar mounting solution and sits atop the headquarters of Advance Transit (AT), a non-profit transit system that provides public transportation to communities in Vermont and New Hampshire.

The solar array was entirely funded by a grant, enabling AT to use the FIT payments from the local utility, Green Mountain Power, to offset the transit system’s operating costs.  AT will make 30 cents per kilowatt hour and expects the project to generate approximately $10,000 per year through the utility’s “standard offer” contract.  The money will help AT continue to support public transportation throughout Vermont and New Hampshire.

The PV system is part of broader efforts to expand and upgrade AT’s facilities to meet the LEED Silver Certification standard as will produce about 38,000 kWh per year, preventing about 700 metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering that atmosphere over the first 25 years of production.
