PanelClaw Announces ETL Certification, Adds Approved Modules

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – February 21, 2012 | PanelClaw, a leader in photovoltaic mounting systems, announced today the ETL listing of all PanelClaw products to UL Subject 2703, which establishes safety and performance requirements for PV mounting systems. PanelClaw’s ETL listing includes modules from Canadian Solar, Chaori Solar, ET Solar, Gloria Solar, Helios Solar Works, LDK Solar, Mitsubishi Electric, Motech, MX Solar, and Suniva.

“ETL listing reconfirms PanelClaw’s commitment to making solar a reliable, accessible solution through testing and engineering excellence,” said Costa Nicolaou, PanelClaw’s president. “It will allow more of our partners to realize the significant reduction in labor and material costs we have seen since our initial UL 2703 listing last year.”

PanelClaw systems are ETL listed to UL 2703 by Intertek for their mechanical strength, durability, and ability to electrically bond and ground modules included in the listing. PanelClaw partners can now quickly and easily establish ETL-certified electric bonds between all connected array components, including modules and mounting system components, and eliminate the need for the vast majority of ground lugs and wire. PanelClaw’s Polar Bear® FR, Grizzly Bear® FR, and Panda Bear™ GM flat roof and ground mount systems can reduce grounding costs by $.02-.06/W.

“UL 2703 marks an important evolution in the certification of PV mounting systems, and PanelClaw’s ETL listing demonstrates the quality and performance of our products,” said Mark Gies, PanelClaw’s vice president of technology and innovation. “We’re pleased to work with Intertek, a leader in testing and certification, and to continue advancing industry standards.”

PanelClaw Adds Modules to UL 2703 Certification

Thursday, September 29 2011 00:00

PanelClaw Adds Suntech, Yingli Solar, Trina, and Kyocera Modules to UL 2703 Listing

NORTH ANDOVER, MA, USA – September 29, 2011 - PanelClaw, a leader in solar mounting systems, announced today the addition of Suntech, Yingli Solar, Trina Solar, and Kyocera PV modules to its UL 2703 listing. PanelClaw is the first US company to have systems and components listed under UL 2703, a new UL subject specifically focused on evaluating solar PV mounting systems. UL listing demonstrates the effectiveness of PanelClaw’s solar mounting systems and enables installers to drastically reduce grounding costs with modules from these manufacturers.

“Every penny per watt makes a big difference in dropping the cost of solar electricity,” said Wei-Tai Kwok, Vice President of Marketing for Suntech America. “Improved mounting systems and installation components are key contributors in driving the solar industry past grid parity in the U.S. and markets around the world.”

A key component of UL 2703 is the UL recognition of PanelClaw’s mounting systems and module attachment components (Claws) as approved electric bonding and grounding devices. Installers can reduce grounding costs by $.02-.06/W with PanelClaw mounting solutions, by increasing install speed, lowering labor costs, and eliminating the vast majority of copper wire and ground lugs otherwise needed to establish equipment ground connections in a PV system. PanelClaw’s UL listing also enables installers to easily show compliance with array grounding requirements.

“Matching Yingli Solar’s PV modules with PanelClaw’s mounting systems eliminates the need to run copper wire for the purposes of equipment grounding, which reduces installation time and system cost for our customers,” said Brian Grenko, Director of Operations, Yingli Green Energy Americas.  “PanelClaw’s certified solution reinforces our commitment to realizing affordable clean energy for all.”

To achieve UL 2703 component recognition and system listing, all PanelClaw solar mounting products successfully completed a rigorous testing program that included temperature and humidity cycling; electrical resistance and conductance testing; manufacturing and operational quality reviews; and module specific conductivity and mechanical load testing.

“UL 2703 listing is part of our continued commitment to advanced testing and certification,” said Costa Nicolaou, PanelClaw’s President. “We will continue to expand our UL testing program and add additional module manufacturers to our listing, helping our partners reduce the cost of solar.”

“Innovation is at the core of our value proposition,” said Costa Nicolaou, PanelClaw President. “Polar and Grizzly Bear Gen II represent the fulfillment of our promise to invest in cutting edge engineering and deliver the next generation of ballasted solar mounting systems.”

Overview of PanelClaw Gen II Mounting Solutions

Greater Design Flexibility

PanelClaw’s Gen II flat roof solar mounting systems offer several new features that provide increased flexibility to address varied roof conditions and project requirements. Product enhancements include a new 5 degree tilt option, increased inter-row spacing selections, and enhanced wavy-roof friendliness.

Drastically Reduced Grounding Costs

All PanelClaw’s module mounting claws are UL 2703 certified electric grounding and bonding devices. UL 2703 certification enables PanelClaw partners to ground large array segments with a single grounding device, reducing labor and material requirements and increasing installation speeds for Polar and Grizzly Bear Gen II projects.

Advanced Roof Protection

Polar and Grizzly Bear Gen II deliver superior thermal compensation through the addition of a new a-thermalized deflector and an integrated recycled rubber roof protection pad for both Polar and Grizzly Bear.  These features, combined with the existing thermal flexibility of PanelClaw’s non-rail based system, provide advanced roof protection and are designed to help PanelClaw partners obtain roofing manufacturer approvals and reduce installation times.

PanelClaw Announces UL 2703 Certification

Wednesday, May 04 2011 00:00

North Andover, MA, May 5, 2011 - PanelClaw, a leader in solar PV mounting systems, announced today UL electrical bonding and grounding certification for its module mounting components (“Claws”). Official recognition to UL 2703 for electric bonding and grounding will drastically reduce grounding costs for solar arrays mounted with PanelClaw’s innovative Polar Bear® FR, Grizzly Bear® FR, and Panda Bear GM flat roof and ground mount solutions.

UL 2703 electric bonding and grounding certification will enable PanelClaw partners to electrically bond modules and ground arrays simply and quickly, lowering labor costs and eliminating the need for thousands of feet of copper wire and the vast majority of module and racking ground lugs. Multiple strings can now be grounded with a single grounding lug when PanelClaw racking is used in conjunction with appropriately UL tested and listed modules.

“UL 2703 will allow our partners to realize significant project savings through simplified array grounding that slashes labor and material costs,” said Costa Nicolaou, PanelClaw’s president. “Partnering with UL is a clear signal to our partners that PanelClaw is committed to the long-term safety and reliability of our racking solutions.”

UL 2703 is a new UL subject that is specifically focused on Rack Mounting Systems and Clamping Devices for PV Modules and Panels. PanelClaw’s module attachment components or “Claws” were subjected to rigorous testing, including temperature and humidity cycling followed by electrical resistance and conductance analysis, to ensure durable electrical bonding in outdoor environments.

“The emergence of UL 2703 allows PanelClaw and other mounting system companies to demonstrate the effectiveness of racking systems and quality of manufacturing and operational processes,” said Mark Gies, PanelClaw’s vice president of technology and innovation.  “We look forward to the evolution of UL 2703 to a standard, and to the continued validation of our products.”

Modules must undergo simple conductivity and load testing with PanelClaw mounting products prior to being added to PanelClaw’s UL certification.  If you are interested in having your preferred PV modules added to PanelClaw’s UL 2703 certification or learning more about PanelClaw’s products and services, please contact PanelClaw at (978) 688-4900 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
